Basil Leaf – The Name

The name Basil Leaf is inspired by the divine purity of the Tulsi or Basil herb leaf which is an integral part of the Hindu culture. Traditionally every home grew a tulsi plant in the centre of their courtyard for religious and medicinal purposes. In spiritual scriptures, the tulsi is a symbolic earthly manifestation of Goddess Tulsi, the female half of Lord Vishnu.
Basil Leaf, the brand is based on the purity and sanctity of the tulsi plant, closeness to nature and resonates with its traditional qualities and feminine powers.

History of the brand

In 1996, somewhere in a simple suburban Mumbai garage, two ambitious women entrepreneurs, Neelam and Hansa toiled till they discovered the means to actualise their dreams. They combined their minds and energies to finally give birth to a clothing line that the world had never seen.
It took months of design trials and fabrication revisions for these perfectionists to come up with their first flawless ensemble. With limited capital and not much fame, the two of the present Basil Leaf trio, gathered their wits and potential ideas to enter the market with a brand of their own and company called X&O Clothing Pvt Ltd.

The Progress Path

Basil Leaf has sprouted in leaps and bounds. At the time of its entry into the Indian market, there was a dire need for quality ethnic wear in the kids' genre. This fact was thrown up from Neelam Savla's personal experiences when she attempted to find a suitable ethnic outfit for her daughter, especially for weddings but she was unable to find suitable choices. This surprised Neelam and drove her to take up the challenge of creating a whole new line of girl's fashion clothing while she juggled domestic and professional responsibilities.
After a great deal of focus and perseverance, the first lot for Basil Leaf girls came to fruition. The overwhelming response only motivated the team to push their creativity and production further, enabling the highly lavish collection available today.
As the need in the market began getting fulfilled and Basil Leaf began expanding its reach with the pre teen and teenager age group, an increasing number of youngsters began opting to don the fresh label. This enabled it to touch an increasing number of young hearts and wardrobes around the country in a short period of time.
